Launching Your First Online Store: A Practical Checklist

15 July 20265 min readBy Goldy Mehra

You do not need a big budget to sell online. This is the shortest path from zero to a store that actually takes payments.

Most first-time sellers spend weeks choosing a theme and no time on the two things that matter: clear product pages and a payment method that works on the first try.

Your launch checklist

  • Pick one platform — Shopify for speed, WooCommerce for control.
  • Write titles buyers actually search for, not clever brand names.
  • Photograph products on a plain background, at least five images each.
  • Set shipping rates and return terms before you launch, not after.
  • Connect UPI and cards, then place one real test order yourself.
  • Add a WhatsApp button — most Indian buyers ask before they buy.

Selling without a website

If a full store feels premature, a WhatsApp Business catalogue plus an Instagram shop can carry your first hundred orders. Build the website once you know what sells.
